- Located on the transfer case on your four-wheel-drive vehicle
- Helps prevent transmission fluid leaks
- Replace when worn out or damaged
Your Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal can be found on the transfer case of four-wheel-drive Nissan models. The transfer case's job is to send power to the rear wheels on your four-wheel-drive model using gear reductions and chain drives.
The transfer case output shaft is the part that connects your axle to the transfer case by the transmission's input shaft and utilizes the Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal to make sure that the parts maintain a tight connection. Without a functioning Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal, transmission fluid can leak out of the front and rear output shaft.
If a broken or worn out Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal is causing a leak, the low fluid level can no longer properly lubricate the internal parts of the transfer case, potentially causing the chain drives and gears to wear out, overheat, or break. This can quickly cause the transfer case to become damaged and even inoperable, potentially causing the vehicle's four-wheel drive to malfunction or stop working.
If you have a worn out or damaged Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal on your vehicle, you may notice a few symptoms. These indicators can include a metal-on-metal grinding sound from underneath the vehicle, trouble shifting gears, and trouble with your Nissan staying in four-wheel drive.
If you believe your Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal is old or wearing out, replace it as soon as possible to avoid damaging the transfer case or other nearby components.
