- Helps your Nissan engine run efficiently
- Reduces engine air intake noise
- Should not be removed as it may reduce horsepower
The Engine Air Intake Resonator's job is to work as an expansion chamber. The resonator is situated beside or within your vehicle's intake pipe. It plays a huge role in your vehicle's air intake system. This component helps to dampen the loud sounds coming from your engine and help it run efficiently.
Different Nissans come equipped with different kinds of Engine Air Intake Resonators. There are in-line resonators and side branch resonators. While side branch resonators are located beside the intake tube, in-line resonators are embedded into the intake tube. This is the correct resonator for Nissan NV3500 2012-2017.
Some drivers remove this component in an effort to modify their car, boost horsepower, and increase engine noise. However, removing your Nissan's Engine Air Intake Resonator may actually do the opposite. The Engine Air Intake Resonator works by regulating pressure waves from the engine cylinder. These "waves" can cause increased air pressure in the engine, which in turn restricts airflow.
The Engine Air Intake Resonator slows down or dissipates the "waves'' coming from the engine, thus reducing intake noise. Essentially, the intake tube contributes to a steady airflow and allows for a boost in horsepower. When a driver takes out the Engine Air Intake Resonator, the airflow, which actually increases available horsepower, becomes restricted. The result — likely louder drives and lower engine efficiency.
If you suspect your Engine Air Intake Resonator is failing, replace it as soon as possible. Make sure you order the correct type of resonator for your Nissan year and trim. Order genuine OEM engine parts from Nissan Parts to be sure the resonator works for your engine.
